On May 26, the highly anticipated winners of the Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards 2017 were announced at the Coco Republic flagship store in Alexandria, NSW. The awards are all about celebrating and rewarding excellence in design and decoration, as well as supporting creativity and innovation of the interior design industry across residential, hospitality and commercial.
For the first time, Luxaflex® was proud to be a part of this prestigious award, sponsoring the ‘Best Residential Interior’ category. The winner of the award category receives a $3,000 voucher from Luxaflex® as part of the prize package.
From an outstanding array of entries showcasing the best in the interior design industry, this year’s winner of the ‘Best Residential Interior’ is William Smart of William Smart Design for Indigo Slam in Sydney’s Chippendale.
The brief was for Indigo Slam to last 100 years. With this brief, materials and fittings were selected to last, where operable elements used were mechanically operated rather than digitally operated. William says that “Spaces are large but not ostentatious. Internal finishes are modest and pared-back: floors are brick-paved, walls are set render, fittings are simple”. Also named ‘Best Kitchen Interior’ and ‘Best Bathroom Interior’ for Indigo Slam, it is “a piece of sculpture to be lived in”.
